Cell Phone Guidelines
The intent of these guidelines is to minimize distractions and emphasize a focus on academics during the school day.
If students choose to bring a cell phone to school our expectations are as follows:
- Students will silence cell phones and store them in their backpacks or locker. At times students may use their cell phone for an academic purpose.
- Students may use their cell phones appropriately before and after school, during passing time, and during lunch.
This includes:
- Checking in or responding to family members
- Sending and receiving appropriate communication with friends
- Sharing school appropriate material with friends.
- Students who need to be in contact with their family can ask permission from a teacher to use one of our school phones and/or communicate during one of the aforementioned times. Parents are encouraged to contact our main office if there is a message that needs to be relayed immediately.
- Cell phone use of any kind is not permitted in locker rooms or bathrooms.
- Students may not use cell phones to photograph or record students or staff at school without their permission.
- Using social media, apps, or any other function of cell phone/device to spread rumors, bully, make fun of, exclude, or create a disruption in school or outside of school is not permitted.
- Sharing or asking classmates for inappropriate content is not permitted.
- Students assume the risk of damage, theft or loss when choosing to bring a phone to school.
General consequences for students using a cell phone during unapproved times (depending on how the phone is used, additional school consequences, including suspension, may apply):
1st Offense
Phone is held in office for the remainder of the day
2nd Offense
Phone is held in office for the remainder of the day and a parent/guardian is contacted.
3rd Offense
Phone is held in office for the remainder of the day. Cell phone plan will be created with student, parent and administrator.
